Healthy beginnings start long before the first spoonful

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"When should I start thinking about my baby's gut health?"

Most people expect the answer to be when we introduce solid food.

My answer is much earlier.

Healthy beginnings often start during pregnancy.

The food we eat.

The way we care for ourselves.

Our stress levels.

Sleep.

Movement.

The way birth unfolds.

The first hours after a baby arrives.

Every one of these moments becomes part of a much bigger story.

The infant microbiome fascinates me because it's one of the clearest reminders that our bodies are deeply connected.

Birth isn't separate from nutrition.

Nutrition isn't separate from mental wellbeing.

Mental wellbeing isn't separate from hormones.

Nothing exists in isolation.

That's one of the reasons I created The Beginning Method.

Because preparing for birth isn't simply preparing for labour.

It's preparing for family life.

For recovery.

For nourishment.

For confidence.

For those wonderfully ordinary moments that slowly become the foundations of a healthy beginning.

Small choices really do matter.

Not because they have to be perfect.

But because, over time, they become part of the story we're writing for ourselves and our children.

And I think that's rather wonderful.
